Tequatl Achievement Guide
Tequatl is a world boss in the Splintered Coast region of Sparkfly Fen, and a champion of Zhaitan. Completing this boss and associated achievements grants a total of 116 AP, a title, and 2 Core Mastery Points. This meta starts at server reset and repeats every 4 hours
You can get there from Splintered Coast Waypoint [&BNABAAA=] or by using the World Boss Portal Device
Phase 1 - 100-75%
The first phase of the event needs to be organized in order for the event to succeed. Server reset is a popular time for this event to run, and you will likely find tags in the LFG tab
You know you’re on a map that previously failed if the area is covered with rotten, exploding fish heads
For the first phase to succeed, having all three North and West turrets occupied is key
The operators will focus on dispelling poison puddles using skill 3 [Poison Clense] and lobbing skill 2 [Scale Penetration] to remove the Hardened Scales Buff
Sometimes these puddles are dropped directly on top of turrets, so watch your neighbors if you find yourself operating one
Having 3-5 players hanging around both sets of turrets to protect the operators from adds and resurrect if needed is also a great idea
If any turrets are broken before the event starts, repair them with the Repair Hammers nearby
Everyone else should be on the boss or cutting down Tequatl’s Fingers
There are many attacks Tequatl will use during this phase - avoiding some of them might get you an achievement! Stand out of bad, and you’ll do fine
If you fail these mechanics, you may end up with a Bone Wall that makes Tequatl invulnerable until cleared by Turrets
Attacks & Abilities
Hardened Scales - stacks over time @ 20 stacks creates Bone Walls. Hylek turret [Scale Penetration] skill 2 removes stacks when head is targeted
Tequatl’s Fingers - bone tendrils that come up from the ground. Knocks players back on swing and shoots projectile AOE poison death puddles. These puddles can be removed with [Poison Clense]. Remove all BEFORE the defense phase or there will be AOEs to deal with for the next phase
Poison Pool - Larger than those created by fingers with a darker fog effect coming up. Cannot be cleansed by turret’s. These drop when Tequatl lifts his right foot, near stack. Pulses damage and cripples
Undead Breath - “Stand Back, it’s about to breathe!” Frontal attack. Poisons and causes fear
Dragon’s Step - Any time Tequatl puts a foot down, it deals lethal damage
Shockwave - After any time Tequatl stomps either foot, a wave of water will come out - jump or dodge to avoid the damage and knockback
Dragon Barrage - Shoots slow projectiles towards random target. Knocksback and damages
Tail Swipe - Cone area behind Tequatl, knocks back and can hit anywhere from 1-6 times. Happens after he stomps a foot down, uses Undead Breath, or summons fingers
Watery Grave - red whirlpool AOEs that pull players underground to a secret area at 75%. A debuff is applied that deals damage until you swim to the surface
Defense Phase
Tequatl will fly away at every 25% loss of health - when he does this, everyone will split among four locations to defend the batteries and megalaser
Each battery (North, East, West) has its own defense process, as well as the megalaser. Tequatl will also be flying overhead leaving a path of poison puddles
Pay attention to the NPC dialogue to hear which location he is going over next, continue the defense for 2 minutes
Megalaser
Head back just behind the North Turrets
Mobs will spawn in the same spots, and not usually at the same time - run between them, killing the mobs before they can reach the megalaser
There is one champion that spawns from the same spot multiple times. The mobs and champions die really fast
North Battery
Beyond the megalaser to the North is one battery to defend
Stomp on Grub Holes in the area to prevent additional Risen Grubs from spawning. Kill the mobs in the area, spawing from the same couple of spots. The grub holes will respawn a couple of times; just stomp them again
East Battery
Beyond the megalaser and towards the waypoint, there is another battery to defend
In addition to the mobs spawning in the same couple of spots, Risen Plague Carriers will be heading towards the battery. If they reach it, they will explode, causing a lot of damage to the battery (and you!)
West Battery
Instead of heading towards the megalaser, head over the large broken boat towards the shore to reach this battery
Smaller versions of Tequatl’s Fingers will spawn that will knock-back and spit poison puddles. These puddles are a lot less painful, but still a good idea to kill the fingers when they spawn as it will make it easier to deal with the mobs also spawning in the same couple of spots
Phase 2 - 75-50%
After the defense phase, the megalaser will fire, knocking Tequatl out of the sky
He will be stunned for 30 seconds. If the players do not get his health to 50%, he will begin doing his attacks as described in Phase 1. Players will need to staff the turrets and kill fingers. However, in a well populated map, getting down to 50% health in 30 seconds is not an issue
Defense Phase 2
Repeat previous defense Phase
Phase 3 - 50-25%
Repeat of Phase 2
Defense Phase 3
Repeat previous defense Phase
Phase 4 - 25% - Kill
Repeat of Phase 2
Successfully killing will award 4 Dragon Chests, one for each 25% of health phase you participated in. Participating through Phase 1 grants a fine, Phase 2 Masterwork, Phase 3 Rare, and the Kill phase grants an Exotic Dragon chest
