Legendary Back Piece Ad Infinitum
Getting a Legendary Backpiece is one of the best steps you can take in Guild Wars 2, it is extremely useful, and makes switching builds, or trying new classes way easier, with that said, lets take a look at Ad Infinitum, the Fractals of The Mists Legendary!
Getting Started
Before we get into the achievement here is a total breakdown of materials you will need from Guild Wars 2 Efficiency - Total Material Crafting Calculator
First things first we need to start the achievement - to do this you will need to speak with Kelvei, the Legendary Observer in the Mistlock Observatory and receive Theory of the Finite Result

After you have unlocked this achievement you can get started, first you will need to complete 11 tasks in order to be able to craft your first step - Finite Result

Purchase from BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 20 Pristine Fractal Relic

Purchase from BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 100 Fractal Relics and 80 Silver
Swampland Challenge Mote
Activate the Challenge Mote, and complete the Tier 1 level 1-20 Swampland Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing - This step shouldn't be too hard if you are familiar with Fractals, but is best to be done with a full team
Aquatic Ruin Challenge Mote
Activate the challenge mote, and complete the Tier 1 level 1-20 Aquatic Ruins Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing- This step shouldn't be too hard if you are familiar with Fractals, but is best to be done with a full team
Jade Kraken Timed Mote
Beat the Jade Maw in under 5 minutes in the level 20 Solid Ocean Fractal
Ascalonian Fractal Field Research Paper
Trade a Fractal Journal to the Urban Battlegrounds Field Researcher at the end of the Urban Battleground Fractal - You will be able to find the Researcher after beating Captain Ashym at the end of the Fractal

Burning Frozen Core
Obtain a Gigantic Ice Elemental Core by killing the Svanir Shaman Chief in Wayfarer Foothills during The Frozen Maw meta event
The event chain begins every even hour on a quarter past the hour
After that interact with the Boiling Hot Magma in the Volcanic Fractal, you'll be able to find this after defeating Legendary Imbued Shaman, with the Gigantic Ice Elemental Core in your inventory
Charged Clump of Swamp Moss
Obtain a Clump of Swamp Moss by defeating Bloomhunger at the end of the Swampland Fractal
Take it to Specially Charged Energy Storage Tank at the Opticalium
Jeztar Falls Waypoint — [&BEEAAAA=] will be the closest one to this
Prototype Fractal Capacitor
Sold by BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 1,350 Fractal Relic and 21 Silver 12 Copper - which one you purchase doesn't matter, but you will need to keep it for future steps!
Unstable Magically Charged Infusion Sample
Charge a +4 Agony Infusion in a Mist Geyser in the Swampland Fractal
You will be able to find this after defeating Bloomhunger
Aetherblade Recruitment Form
Purchase from the Aetherblade Quartermaster in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 1 Balls of Dark Energy
At the entrance to the fractal simply turn around and run through the door - you will have to run through a small area until you cross a bridge and find a bunch of non-hostile NPC's, enter the small hut at the back to find the merchant you need
Balls of Dark Energy can be acquired by using Ascended Salvage Kits and Ascended Salvage Tools on ascended gear - here is the drop rates from Guild Wars 2 Wiki

Legendary Backpacks: Ad Infinitum II: Upper Bound
After you return to Kelvei, the Legendary Observer you will start progress towards the next item you need for the precursor - Upper Bound For this step you will need another Fractal Journal (28 Fractal Research Pages) so be prepared for to hit a time gate if you don't already have these! You will also need to craft Finite Result at some point, so you will need you to have one of the weapon or armor crafters to level 500, you will not have to do this immediately but you will get the Balls of Dark Energy needed for the next steps by salvaging it!
After you have unlocked this achievement you can get started, first you will need to complete 11 tasks in order to be able to craft your second step - Upper Bound
Dredge Spiral Drill
Purchase from BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 30 Pristine Fractal Relics
Glob of Molten Fire
Purchase from BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 200 Fractal Relics and 80 Silver
Uncategorized Challenge Mote
Activate the Challenge Mote, and complete the Tier 2 level 36 or 44 Uncategorized Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing - This step shouldn't be too hard if you are familiar with Fractals, but is best to be done with a full team
Snowblind Challenge Mote
Activate the Challenge Mote, and complete the Tier 2 level 27 Snowblind Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing - This step shouldn't be too hard if you are familiar with Fractals, but is best to be done with a full team
Thaumanova Reactor Timed Mote
Complete the Tier 1 level 15 Thaumanova Reactor Fractal in under 20 minutes
Molten Alliance Fractal Field Research Paper
Purchase this from a Molten Furnace Field Researcher at the end of the Molten Boss Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal - After defeating the bosses proceed across the bridge and go up
Jade Maw Fang
I suggest getting the Ice Elemental Core from the next step first so that you can complete two steps in one Map Meta train in the Silverwates since you will need to complete The Breach to progress on that one
Obtain a Vinewrath Tendril from the Mordrem Vinewrath in the Silverwastes by completing the map wide Meta-Event
After you receive the Vinewrath Tendril you will need to complete the Solid Ocean Fractal - After taking down the Jade Maw you can give the item to Frozen Jade Researcher who you'll find on the same platform you killed the Maw on
Pollenated Ice Elemental Core
Obtain an Ice Elemental Core after defeating Legendary Shaman Lornarr Dragonseeker in the Snowblind Fractal - You can get this from any tier
After you receive the Ice Elemental Core you will need to head over to Silverwastes and participate in The Breach Meta-Event. You will need to enter one of the holes that spawns during this event, defeat the boss and look for Luminescent Pollen Clouds
The bosses do require some team work so you could trying looking in LFG for a squad
Beta Fractal Capacitor
Create a Beta Fractal Capacitor (Infused) in the Mystic Forge - To craft this you will need the following:

Weak Magically Charged Infusion Sample
Take a +6 Agony Infusion with you to the Molten Furnace Fractal and charge it in the Mist Geyser
Jump on the rocks and enter a spider-web filled tunnel, the Mist Geyser is at the end of the tunnel
Aetherblade Handbook
Purchase from the Aetherblade Quartermaster in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 2 Balls of Dark Energy
At the entrance to the fractal simply turn around and run through the door - you will have to run through a small area until you cross a bridge and find a bunch of non-hostile NPC's, enter the small hut at the back to find the merchant you need

When you salvage Finite Result you will always receive 5 Balls of Dark Energy, 2 you will use to buy the Aetherblade Handbook and 2 to craft Upper Bound
You are now done step 2 of Ad Infinitum! This will grant you Proof: Upper Bound which you will need to craft as we get closer to the precursor, you wont need to craft this immediately if you don't want to, but you will need to do it soon

You will also need to craft Upper Bound, you will not have to do this immediately but you will get the Balls of Dark Energy needed for the next steps by salvaging it!

Complete the level 10 Molten Boss Fractal in under 5 minutes - The timer starts once a team member reaches the boss, you will also get Qualify for Molten Alliance Speed Run effect
Thaumanova Fractal Field Research Paper
Purchase this from a Thaumanova Field Researcher at the end of the Thaumanova Reactor Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal - The vendor will appear in the last room after defeating Thaumanova Anomaly
Old Tom's Vital Reading (He's Dead)
For this one you will need to get to the end of the Vexa's Kab Mini Dungeon and get the Vexa's Golem Diagnostic Reader from Vexa's Test-Golem Remains
To find the Entrance for Vexa's Lab start at Breaktooth's Waypoint — [&BBoCAAA=] in Fireheart Rise and head west from there to the Sloven Pitch Vista — [&BIIGAAA=] - look for a entrance in this mountain with Holographic jumping platforms, get to the end and this will be your entrance
Once you have the Vexa's Golem Diagnostic Reader go defeat Old Tom in the Uncategorized Fractal and analyze his remains
Rabsovich's Lost Treasure
Get Rabsovich's Locker Key by defeating Champion Rabsovich in the Underground Facility Fractal - Once you have this key go to Dociu Waypoint — [&BFgCAAA=] in Dredgehaunt Cliffs to find Rabsovich's Locker
Head south from the above waypoint and into the mines/caverns
The caves are confusing so try your best to not get lost!
Fractal Capacitor
Create a Fractal Capacitor (Infused) in the Mystic Forge - To craft this you will need the following:

You should have this from the last achievement step Beta Fractal Capacitor

After you defeat the Elemental Source head the way you normally would to the Legendary Shaman Lornarr Dragonseeker final boss, but instead of going in the cave, head West
You can not skip the Elemental Source fight or the Mist Geyser will not appear

You have made it to the final achievement, once you have Unbound crafted return to Kelvei, the Legendary Observer you will than start working towards the Gift of Infinity
You will need another Fractal Journal (28 Fractal Research Pages) so be prepared for to hit a time gate if you don't already have these! You will also need to have Unbound crafted to even start this achievement which means you will need a lot of Stabilizing Matrix
After you have unlocked this achievement you can get started, you will need to complete 13 tasks in order to receive your gift!

Activate the Challenge Mote, and complete the Tier 3 or 4 level 51 - 100 Underground Facility Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing - You will need a full team and some decent Agony Resistance for this - please see this guide to help you get higher AR

Activate the Challenge Mote, and complete the Tier 3 or 4 level 51 - 100 Aetherblade Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing - You will need a full team and some decent Agony Resistance for this - please see this guide to help you get higher AR
Mai Trin Timed Mote
Complete the Tier 4 level 95 Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal in under 25 minutes - The timer starts once a team member reaches the boss, you will also get Qualify for Mai Trin Speed Run effect
This is the first forced Tier 4 content you have to do for the backpiece, it does get fairly difficult and you will need a suggested AR of 141+ - This can be achieved through a combination of Agony Infusions in your gear, using a Anguished Tear of Alba potion (gives +15 AR if you have the mastery Fractal Attunement Mastery) and using the Mistlock Singularity just outside the boss fight
Aetherblade Fractal Field Research Paper
Purchase this from a Aetherblade Field Researcher at the end of the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal - The vendor will appear on the airship across some red jump pads after defeating Mai Trin
Jungle Wurm Omelet (Mossman Style)
You will need to head to the dungeon Twilight Arbor to start this one, go in and defeat the Greater Nightmare Vine in any of the Nightmare Court level 55 path choices to get a Jungle Wurm Egg
Once you have the egg bring it to Mossman's Hut at the end of the Swampland Fractal - After defeating Bloomhunger the tunnel will open and appear on the mini map
Interact with the door and trade the egg for the Jungle Wurm Omelet
Charged Archdiviner's Mallet
You can do Explosive Magically Charged Infusion Sample at the same time as getting this Mallet
Defeat the Archdiviner at the top of the Cliffside Fractal to receive the Archdiviner's Mallet
Once you have the mallet you will need to jump into the middle of the Thaumanova Reactor in Metrica Province to charge it.
To open the reactor you will need to complete the Thaumanova Reactor Fallout Meta-Event and have a Matrix Cube Key - but if someone in the map has the key they can open this for you!
Explosive Magically Charged Infusion Sample
Take a +10 Agony Infusion with you to the Cliffside Fractal and charge it in the Mist Geyser
You can find the Mist Geyser right at the top of the Fractal after defeating the Archdiviner (you will be able to see if when you look at the colossus that you free) on the right side when you are facing outwards
Aetherblade Diploma
Purchase from the Aetherblade Quartermaster in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 3 Balls of Dark Energy
At the entrance to the fractal simply turn around and run through the door - you will have to run through a small area until you cross a bridge and find a bunch of non-hostile NPC's, enter the small hut at the back to find the merchant you need

Lessons in Arbology
First you will need to craft a Gift of Wood - You get the recipe from Miyani / Mystic Forge Attendant

Take the Gift of Wood to Ascalonian Woodcutter at the end of the Urban Battleground Fractal after you defeat Captain Ashym on any difficulty tier

Lessons in Metallurgy
First you will need to craft a Gift of Metal - You get the recipe from Miyani / Mystic Forge Attendant

This will unlock once you start the achievement
You will receive Gift of Infinity once you complete those 13 steps, and you are now done all the achievements in order to finally craft Ad Infinitum!
