Basic Masteries Guide

If you are a new Level 80, and just discovering Masteries for the first time, you'll definitely feel a bit overwhelmed at first trying to level them all, in this guide I will go over the easiest ways to get 9 Mastery Points for Central Tyria and get you started on completing them all!

The Mastery System

First lets start off with what a "Mastery" is, the Mastery system is a form of account wide progression, it starts when you get your first character to level 80. Your experience progression on that character (and any other level 80 characters from then on) will start to go towards leveling your Masteries (as well as spirit shards but that's another topic!)

To level a Mastery you will not only need the experience to finish the progression bar, but you will also need a certain number of allotted Mastery Points. You get these Mastery Points through various methods which can all generally be found under your Achievement tab.

As you unlock Masteries they become account bound upgrades, so all of your characters will start to have these bonuses and effects, like the Fractal Attunement, you will be able to use Mistlock Singularities on all characters that enter Fractals once it is leveled up and unlocked. They are all very useful and definitely worth maxing out!

There will be different Mastery trees per expansion, so the base game will be under "Central Tyria", and Heart of Thorns will have its own and so on, you will only be able to gain experience for those Masteries in the expansions specific maps

I.E: Auric Basic will give Heart of Thorns Mastery Experience only, so you can not level a Path of Fire mount Mastery there. Than you will have to manually chose to upgrade it in the Mastery Menu to complete it.

Lets move on to some easy Central Tyria points to get by simply doing all of the "Mastery Insights" achievement.

Central Tyria Mastery Insights

Bloodtide Coast Insight: Bloody Bill's Base

  • This insight is located in Bloodtide Coast, the closest waypoint will be the Remanda Waypoint [&BKcBAAA=]

  • Head north towards Bloody Bill's Base. Follow the steps up until you reach the highest platform, at which point walk along the side of the green cabin on a narrow plank to the Mastery Insight

Dredgehaunt Cliffs Insight: Dostoev Sky Peak

  • This insight is located in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, the best starting waypoint is the Grey Road Waypoint [&BFoCAAA=]

  • head into the cave just to the north of the Waypoint. Go west at the T-intersection into a round chamber room. The mastery point is right above the entrance into the huge room of scaffolding (You may see the Mastery marker at the end of the north corridor).

  • NOTE: If you have a Springer (guide to getting the springer), go up the wooden ramp to the immediate left of the entrance to the room. Then high jump onto the mastery platform

  • If you do not have the Springer yet, you will have to go the long way. Take the northern-most exit from this room. Then, at the bottom of ramp into the next room, turn right and enter a curvy corridor that leads up. From here, follow the scaffolding all the way to the top then cross the zig-zag bridge to the Mastery Insight

  • The scaffolding has enemies on them you will need to kill. The Mastery Point has a Veteran but they might not notice you when you commune with the Mastery

Fireheart Rise Insight: Cozen Desolation

  • This insight is located in Fireheart Rise, the best waypoint to start with is Pig Iron Waypoint [&BBcCAAA=]

  • Swim north through the channel. The mastery point will become visible at the top of a pillar of rock on the left surrounded by some Flame Legion including a Veteran that need to be killed

Harathi Hinterlands Insight: Hidden Ourobon

  • This insight is located in Harathi Hinterlands, the best waypoint to reach this one is Barricade Camp Waypoint [&BK0AAAA=]

  • You will need to follow the road through the centaur camp and north through Diremane Woods and then east into Hidden Ourobon. Keep following the path through Hidden Ourobon, passing one small waterfall and through a small opening until you reach a much larger waterfall at the back. The Mastery Insight is on a ledge beside the base of the waterfall.

Iron Marches Insight: Sunken Halls of Clarent

  • This insight is located in the Iron Marches, the best way point to get started is Bloodfin Lake Waypoint [&BOMBAAA=]

  • First you will need to swim northwest across the lake, and through the underwater tunnel to emerge in the Sunken Halls of Clarent. Go up the stairs along one wall of the chamber that lead up from the water to enter the area filled with enemies. Head right then around the corner to find the insight.

Malchor's Leap Insight: Scavenger's Chasm

  • This insight is located in Malchor's Leap, the best way point to start this with no mounts is Pagga's Waypoint [&BKYCAAA=]

  • Without the Springer, you need to complete the jumping portion of the Scavenger's Chasm jumping puzzle. You don't need to gather the orbs for the chests, just reach the top. There is a ramp leading up from the treasure room to a cliff above the waypoint, and the mastery point is found there. (Valley of Lyss Waypoint [&BKoCAAA=] is closer, it is usually contested, and unavailable for use.)

NOTE: If you have the Springer mount, you can jump up the cliff just south of Pagga's Waypoint [&BKYCAAA=]

Mount Maelstrom Insight: Volcanic Rim

  • This insight is in Mount Maelstrom, the best starting waypoint is Magmatic Waypoint [&BNYCAAA=]

  • head east across two basalt bridges to the first Shadow Imp and some lava-falls. Behind this imp you can jump up the little slope to the right of the lava. Follow the east bank of the lava-flow up the mountain to the Boiling-Hot Magma. Keep heading north up the slope, and when you can go up no further, jump slightly east onto the next slope.

  • NOTE: With a Springer, the next portion can be skipped by jumping up onto and over the rim of the volcano, right down to the Mastery Point, on your left.

  • Continue following the eastern edge of the volcano in an anti-clockwise direction. You will reach a sudden change in gradient where you'll briefly drop down into a trench - climb out of it and emerge on the other side. Now begin walking to the northwest, you will quickly come across a steep incline where you will begin to slip down; look for a small northwards v-shaped gulley where you can walk up the middle and follow it to the top.

  • At the top of this gulley, the mastery point will now be directly to the west of you. Jump down from the shelf and commune with the mastery point to claim the mastery insight.

  • Alternative Route: A significantly simpler, but longer path starts at the Maelstrom's Bile Vista and just follows the rim clockwise until you're above the point and can jump down. Neither a mount nor gliding is mandatory. Below is a route if you have mounts.

  • When you have Skyscale unlocked, you can start from Maelstrom's Waypoint — [&BM0CAAA=] and use the rift skill near the lava pool to go all the way up through the volcano.

Sparkfly Fen Insight: Shattercleft Hills

  • This insight is in Sparkfly Fen, the best waypoint to start this one is Caer Brier Waypoint [&BLMDAAA=]

  • Head southwest from this waypoint and into the cave

Timberline Falls Insight: Copperhammer Mines

  • This insight is in Timberline Falls, the best waypoint to start this one is White Paper Waypoint [&BE8CAAA=]

  • From the waypoint head east toward the rocky entrance but climb up the cliff at its left instead. Drop down to the dredge platform and take the first tunnel at left. The Mastery Insight is at left within a small building.

There are many more masteries to get for each expansion but this should get you started with leveling masteries up! The Advanced Logistics mastery is one of the best in the game, this will unlock auto loot for you, and this is an absolute game changer, and will require 19 total Central Tyria Mastery points.
